How To Safely Remove Your Old Water Heater

If you have stopped getting hot water, your water heater might have issues. It could be the heating element or anything else. Call for water heater repair in Whittier, CA to fix the problem in time. There are times when repairing does not help and you are forced to replace the unit. However, before embarking on a full replacement, check the unit. Once you are convinced that the unit needs to be replaced, follow these steps to safely remove your old water heater -
  • Turn off the electricity at the circuit breaker. To make sure the power is off, use a circuit tester. Now, mark the wire connections and disconnect the wires.
  • Turn a faucet (on hot) and let it run until the water gets cool. Disconnect the cold water supply line and connect a garden hose to the drain valve.
  • The next step is to open the drain valve and empty the water heater into buckets. Opening a hot water faucet on a sink can help the water heater tank to empty quicker.
  • Once the tank gets empty, remove the discharge pipe from the Temperature & Pressure (T&P) relief valve and disconnect the water supply lines. Ask someone to help you remove the old tank with a hand truck.

If you are not sure about the process, call a professional for water heater installation in Whittier CA to avoid hassles and get the old unit replaced by a new one.
